History
I Slay was founded in 2024 by two Latina, LGBTQIA+ sisters in Austin, Texas. As plus-size people, they often felt a sense of isolation, discrimination, and maltreatment not just from social interactions but with medical professionals as well. They found themselves often exchanging clothes and making recommendations to one another for healthcare professionals who are “plus-size inclusive”.
In February 2024, they hosted their first clothing swap out of their backyard with 13 attendees and less than a year later they expanded to forming a partnership with OutWellness, an inclusive physical therapy and fitness space specifically tailored for the queer and LGBTQ+ community, to host monthly flagship plus-size clothing swaps. At the end of 2024, I Slay had over 400 members and donated over 10,000 items of clothing and accessories to 12 nonprofits across Central Texas.
